Looking for a fun classroom game to play in the winter? Kids love a good snowball fight so why not bring it indoors and add in some learning!

Classroom snowball fights can be used for different subject areas and are extremely flexible. I love a good multiplication snowball fight math game to practice basic multiplication facts but they work just as well for sight words or many other concepts.

You can grab my FREE math snowball fight game for math facts below but keep reading for ideas on how to play…

If you want to emphasize the fun, keep it to questions that can be solved quickly and mentally but making it a little more work, and requiring writing down answers is also a great way to review key learning.

A classroom snowball fight is always a good idea!

How to run a snowball game Classroom style!

Preparing your diy Indoor Snowball fight Game in the Classroom

  • Decide on your topic and create a collection of questions. You’ll want at least as many questions as you have students but for more snowballs, add more questions!
  • Add in blank snowballs, fun task/challenge/reward snowballs and anything else would like. (Optional)
  • Print (or write) and cut up your snowballs. You can pre-crumple each question to make a paper snowball or have your students do it before playing.
  • Decide how you want to play the game. Prepare answer sheets if needed.

Time for a snowball fight!

Option 1: Have fun! Students throw snowballs at each other and when hit, they have to answer the question with the person who hit them before they can return to the fight. Both players have to agree on the answer.

Option 2: Teach check-in. When a student is hit by a snowball, they must check their answer with you. This allows for a little more accountability and you get a snapshot of who is answering correctly and who is needing a little more support.

Option 3: Formal fun. Create an answer sheet. As students participate in the snowball fight game, they must record their answers before moving on to be handed in at the end. You’ll be able to check answers and see how many questions students were able to get through.

FREE Math Snowball Fight Game

I’ve created a simple math snowball fight multiplication game for you for FREE so you can get right to having fun!

This multiplication snowball fight will have your kids practicing their math facts up to 12×12, multiplication and division. There are basic multiplication and division questions as well as some word problems.

I also added a few ‘fun’ cards that give students a simple reward or silly activity to complete instead of a math question. Pick and choose which cards to include in the snowball fight, or use them all.

Let me know below if you play it! How did you set it up?
